Today I went out into our backyard and found this little beauty sitting on the patio:
This is an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly. This little jewel sat on my hand for 20-30 minutes earlier today. I picked him up off the patio because I did not want the cat to get him.. He seemed to have trouble flying - it kept spiraling down to the ground. Maybe he just emerged from his chrysalis and doesn't know how to fly very well yet?
Eventually I took him up to the woods behind our house and put him on some plants. Here's a great picture of his underside.
Oh, and here's our outside kitty, Killer.
Yes, his name is Killer. Yes, there's a good reason for his name to be Killer. This is why I moved the butterfly from the patio.
I hope you enjoyed my pretty butterfly pictures. They were all taken by me today. All pictures shown here are my property. It you would like to use them, please ask for permission. Thank you.
Wow what a beautiful butterfly. I never saw one like that! That is great that you were able to have it sit on your hand and take lovely pictures. Killer is quite adorable, he just looks like he wants to have a little fun.

Such a lovely butterfly!! I have some framed butterflies from South America that were my grandmothers. I think they are so pretty. Thanks for sharing! I just wanted to thank you for stopping by my blog during the Blogelina Event and that I liked you on FB as my page and as myself. You are doing very well for only being about two months old. Congrats! Please let me know if you ever want to collaborate on anything.
