Exciting Things Are in the Works!

I know it has been a long time since I posted, but I have exciting news! Later this week, I will be opening a new Etsy shop. I will be selling my recycled/reclaimed/upcycled yarn.

What is recycled/reclaimed/upcycled yarn, you may ask? Well, it is yarn that I have rescued from thrift store sweaters! So I head out to the thrift store (and we have some great thrift stores in my area), buy some sweaters in pretty fibers that are languishing at the thrift, and head home. Then I carefully take apart and unravel each sweater, skein up the yarn on my niddy noddy, wash all the skeins in the tub with a little bit of Dawn dishsoap. The wet skeins then head to the other bathroom to hang in the shower to dry. Once dry, I will photograph and list each new yarn on Etsy.

Why recycled/reclaimed/upcycled yarn? Because it is a great way to give lovely yarn a new life. Items in thrift shops that don't sell are regularly just destroyed or turned into rags. If I can rescue some beautiful yarn and get it to a knitter or crocheter that wants to make it into something lovely, why shouldn't I?

Red is 100% lambswool
Heathered purple is 50% lambswool, 35% modal, 10% nylon and 5% cashmere - this yarn is awesome!
Lavender is 55% raime and 45% cotton
Heathered olive green is 30% wool, 30% acrylic, 16% nylon, 16% rayon and 8% angora

Back to the beginning

When I originally created this blog, I wanted it to be about my thrift store finds. I strayed from that into reviews and giveaways, but now I am going to head back to my roots. I will still be doing some reviews and giveaways, but more posts will be about thrift store finds and crafty stuff.

I'll Be Back - Next Week!!!

Hello, everyone! I just wanted to apologize for my absence these last couple months. Things have been crazy busy, and blogging just fell by the way-side for a time.

I will be starting back up with product, game and book reviews the beginning of next week, as well as giveaways, too.

Again, I apologize for my absence, and I am looking forward to re-joining the blog-o-sphere at the beginning of next week.

Review and Giveaway: Bluapple

I was recently given the opportunity to review a great money-saving device in my home - The Bluapple! The Bluapple is a small, blue plastic apple that goes in the refrigerator with your fruits and veggies and helps to keep them fresher, longer!

How Does the BluApple Work?

Ethylene gas is given off naturally by fruits and vegetables as a signaling mechanism in order to coordinate uniform ripening. However, once concentrated in your refrigerator or other storage areas, the presence of ethylene gas continues to speed up ripening and hasten spoilage.

The BluApple is designed to provide effective ethylene gas absorption for three months in a typical home refrigerator produce bin or storage container. The active ingredient does not "wear out", but continues to absorb ethylene until it has reached its capacity. A One Year Refill Kit rounds out the BluApple ethylene gas management product line, allowing consumers to reuse BluApples and not add them to landfills.

We all know fresh fruits and veggies are important, but they are also SO expensive! Even with a household of 5 adults, we sometimes have a hard time eating all the produce we buy before it can go bad. The Bluapple is helping us with that problem! I just put the Bluapple in the crisper drawer with whatever produce I get from the store or our local Farmer's Market, and it absorbs the ethylene gas that produce creates as it ripens. My household loves strawberries, and we are lucky enough to live near a strawberry farm which sells fresh, just-picked strawberries from a local stand in the spring and summer. We buy a gallon bucket of strawberries at a time, but we cannot eat them all at once, and we all know strawberries go bad very quickly. So this time I put the Bluapple on top of the bucket after I cut the first batch of strawberries, and we still had fresh strawberries a couple days later!

My household also loves raw veggies, like carrots, celery, radishes and cucumbers. I tend to buy some of each every week at the store, and now I know that they will not go bad since they just go in the crisper drawer with the Bluapple!

I am thrilled with my Bluapple, and I just know you are going to be, too.

The Bluapple has generously offered 1 two-pack of Bluapples to three (3) lucky readers here! Just enter on the Rafflecopter form below.

Free Kindle Books on Amazon May 24 and 25 Only!!!

I had the opportunity to read and share with you a couple of great books available right now for FREE on Amazon for your Kindle. They are:

Lucifer's Odyssey by Rex Jameson.

A civil war rages across the heavens between Lucifer and Jehovah, but it’s not the story you thought you knew...

Lucifer languishes in an earthly prison, awaiting the apocalypse that will finally free him after 200,000 years. Before breaking loose, he discovers that the armageddon he set in motion will destroy the capital of Chaos, his home universe.

He travels back to Chaos and stumbles upon a bloody civil war devastating his homeland. The realm’s magic wielders are firmly under the control of a rival clan, and without their protection, Lucifer's family is in mortal peril. As old demon clan rivalries blossom and a new hostile universe expands across the known multiverse, Lucifer is faced with not only protecting Chaos from annihilation but also saving his rightful place on the throne.

And The Goblin Rebellion by Rex Jameson.

Five years after the Uldram catastrophe, the elf Routan sits in a shattered home filled with the faded memories of his murdered children. King Elandril has done nothing to bring Lucifer and the demons to justice, and despite the assurances of the government, Routan remains convinced that the Elven Realm is in grave danger. Assistance comes from the creator of the Order Primal, and together, he and Routan will shake the foundations of the multiverse.

Review and Giveaway: Bakery on Main

Recently I was given the opportunity to review Truebars from Bakery on Main. These delicious granola bars are gluten-free, non GMO, and are also casein and dairy free. These bars come in 6 great flavors - Apricot Almond Chai Truebar, Coconut Cashew Truebar, Fruit & Nut Truebar, Hazelnut Chocolate Cherry Truebar, Raspberry Chocolate Almond Truebar, and Walnut Cappuccino Truebar.

All 6 flavors are just fantastic, but my favorites are the Raspberry Chocolate Almond Truebar and the Coconut Cashew Truebar.

I love that all their products are gluten free. While I do not personally have to follow a gluten free diet, I have friends that do and I understand how important it is to them to be able to have a great tasting, healthy snack that is gluten free.

Bakery on Main has generously offered a full sleeve (12 bars) in the winner's choice of flavors to one lucky reader here. Just enter on the Rafflecopter form below.
